Act of Contrition

     Everyone took him for granted
So he held his head so down low
And then the seed was planted
     He prayed to the heavens
     For some sort of guidance
Yet no one could see what was under the lining
Peaceful and calm as the sea
Something that he couldn’t be – hopelessly

In time he could see that there still was some feeling
While lying in bed he saw lights on the ceiling
Yet everyone laughed at his act of contrition
Peaceful and calm as the sea
Something that he wished to be – hopelessly

All those who held him in high admiration
Were secretly scared of their own abhorration
But sympathy drove him to forgive their weakness
Yet anguish and sorrow plunged him into darkness
And no one could save him
And no one could save him, could save him
